WHY DO KIDS LIKE LEARNING ART?

Art is a great way to express your feelings and show all of your imagination! This year the school had its first Art Museum, which was a HUGE success, we had many kids get super creative and use recycled items - from bottle caps to old pizza boxes! To get all these awesome artists' attention Ms. Palefsky says… “My hands are on my knees, I’m focused and ready!” and everyone sings back to her.

        In 2^nd grade everyone focuses on a big project, drawing their self-portrait. Drawing a self-portrait is looking in a mirror and drawing your face. You first draw an oval or circle. Then you place the ears on the side of your face. Ms. Palefsky always said to put your eyes by your ears. Then you add all the other features of the face. Then you end up taking home a masterpiece!
        

      Near and far, that’s what the 3^rd grade is doing. The 3^rd grade is working and learning about landscapes (near and far).  It starts out wide and biG until you can’t see it anymore. You can make train tracks or a road in L.A. To make something look near you, you draw BIG. To make something look far away you draw it small. At the end of the year you come out of school knowing a new technique in art!

       How do you make purple? The 4^th grade is learning the color wheel. To think of the color wheel, you can think of the fish swimming in the sea. There are 3 big fish which stand for the primary colors. The primary colors are red, yellow and blue. Then there are 3 secondary colors. The secondary colors are purple, orange and green. This year all the 4^th graders will know how to mix colors and make other colors!

        5^th grade is the head of the school. Every year the 5^th graders make tiles. They can make it about anything they want. Like what they LOVE or a self-portrait.  Another reason why the 5^th graders make the tiles is to mark their remembrance. Whenever we walk down and up the stairs we see the beautiful tiles! We can’t wait until we get to hear everybody talk about our tiles!

       In all this work we’d like to honor Ms. Palefsky in helping us learn and do all this art. We’d also like to thank her for all the options she gives us. The art room is the place that we can express ourselves and express our feelings.  And with these skills we can make artwork for any occasion! J J
