The Art of Caring About Others

On June 16th, me and 15 other girls donated our hair to Locks of Love at Vasken Salon in Westchester. We all cut 10 -11 inches of our hair to be made into wigs for kids with cancer. It was fun and I think we all felt excited, nervous, and ecstatic over our new hair cuts.
It took about a year to grow our hair long enough, and we recorded measurements of our hair along the way. I think we all felt like C.A.Y.C.A.O. kids, which is to Care About Yourself and Care About Others.

Stop Animations & Slideshow ... a Grand Finale!

This year so many people have made fantastic animations. What is Stop Animation? It is when you take pictures of things that don’t actually move in real life, and you take 50-2,000 pictures. You move the objects and take a picture then keep repeating the process. You put the pictures on a special program, and it turns into a movie. The objects now appear to move. You can add special effects, sound, and much more to it!

Paris was inspired when she saw stop animation videos and thought it was cool so she tried it out! Then I saw Paris’ videos and it was really interesting and looked super fun! I really wanted to try it and I did! Anyone can do Stop Animation if you try! This year, many people were inspired by other animations on the blog.

As you see many of these animations had music from the Purchase School CD. If you think animation is easy it is not too easy because it takes time.

Below you can find the steps for making an animation:

1. Get what you need and get the topic of your animation

2. Find or make the character and then take your pictures

3. Load the images into a movie program. (a program that makes pictures into a movie)

4. You have your movie

5.If you have a mac you can load it into iMovie and add sound effects, music, tittles and maps

6. If you have a mac you can send out or save your movie on your flash drive so you can show people

7. You're done!

Send Your Favorite Characters Anywhere in the Universe

Matt and I just recently finished Photoshopping a picture. It’s about some characters that you might know on the planet Jupiter. These characters are humorous to the Planet Earth. The Photoshop process was hard but here is what we did.

First, we took a picture of the giant bird Ms. Palefsky made with the rest of the school. Next, we went on Google Images and got a picture of Jupiter. We copied and pasted it into Photoshop. Then we got a picture of BOB from Monsters VS. Aliens the movie. We copied and pasted it onto Photoshop. We lassoed BOB to make him transparent so we could drag him into the Photoshop with the background of Jupiter. We then dragged the bird onto the Jupiter background so he would stand next to BOB. At the end we flattened our picture so it could become a JPEG.

Then we saved our picture and we got this:

My Winning Tie Design

If you believe in something you should strive to do it. If you give up on what you strive for there might be whole adventure in front of yourself you might miss. I got my idea from my dad who is a fan of grilling on our grill. I like to draw at home and school. I have submitted different drawing for three years straight until I won. The rest of my family also entered this contest because they like to draw too. I made a few different drafts until I decided I had drawn the draft I wanted to send in to the Vineyard Vines store. About four months after I entered my design, the Vineyard Vines store sent home a little note that said I had won the contest. Also in the box was the first tie they had produced for my dad. I was really excited! A month later the Vineyard Vines store called and said they might want to produce my tie in 2011. Vineyard Vines finally decided they want to produce my tie in 2010 and put me in their catalogue. I had my photo shoot, they took many different pictures around the store in Greenwich, CT. Now I am in their catalogue, which makes me feel that I should strive to keep entering contests, and taking new chances.

Me, Myself, and I

Kindergarteners have lots of imagination. My sister Jennifer and her friend Abby answered some of my questions about self-portraits because their kindergarten art classes made their own. The kindergarteners learned that the eyes are by the ears. Also they learned different styles and steps to follow.

The Steps Are:

1.) Make an oval for the head.

2.) Make ears.

3.) Put the eyes by the ears by tracing their fingers across their head from one ear to the other.

4.) Put the mouth on.
5.) Make a body.

6.) Color it and enjoy!

Some students learned you don’t always need a busy background and most students like it that way. How about you?
